Crosstrek vs Renegade: Performance

The 2019 Crosstrek comes standard with a 2.0L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine mated to an available Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), which shifts well enough to handle daily driving tasks.

The 2019 Renegade comes equipped with a 2.4L MultiAir® engine, which is matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Jeep Renegade and its automatic transmission get an efficient EPA-estimated 32 MPG on the highway, but the CVT in the Crosstrek counters by offering 33 MPG on the highway.1

Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard in the Subaru SUV, and while it's plenty capable of handling trips on the pavement, it also provides the flexibility to go off-roading if you're more of the adventurous type. Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system balances weight and provides power to all four wheels, offering better traction on wet roads and on difficult terrain. The Renegade does offer all-wheel drive, but it's not a standard feature in the base trim.

Cargo Space and Interior Measurements

Whether you're heading out for a weekend adventure or just to the store, having enough cargo space for everything you're carrying is important. The rear seats in the Subaru Crosstrek fold almost completely flat to offer up to 55.3 cubic feet of cargo space. In contrast, the Jeep Renegade is only able to offer 50.8 cubic feet of maximum cargo space, making the Crosstrek a better option for camping gear, shopping bags, and your other belongings.

Comfort is key when traveling. That's not a problem in the 2019 Crosstrek, which offers a spacious 43.1 inches of front legroom and 36.5 inches of rear legroom. The 2019 Renegade, on the other hand, offers 41.2 inches of front legroom and 35.1 inches of rear legroom, making it feel a bit cramped at times, particularly on longer drives.

Infotainment and Comfort

The newly updated SUBARU STARLINK™ Multimedia system makes the Crosstrek a joy to drive, especially if you're looking to keep everyone entertained (even if that means just you). This multimedia system comes standard with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ technology, allowing you to link your smartphone to the appropriately sized 6.5-inch touchscreen.

This type of technology is only an available feature in the 2019 Renegade. Plus, Jeep's touchscreen checks in at just 5 inches, making it harder to interact with.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Jeep Renegade: The Closing Arguments

For those who regularly traverse the roads of Wakefield, Reading, and Danvers, both the Subaru Crosstrek and Jeep Renegade SUVs are worth considering.
