Subaru Forester Warning Lights

These lights serve to let you know that a component of your Forester may need to be checked out by our dealership's service center.

Some warning lights you may see on your dashboard include:

  • Low Tire Pressure Warning: This warning light displays an exclamation mark inside of a horseshoe.
When the ignition switch is turned on, this light will illuminate for about two seconds. At this time, your vehicle's tire pressure will be checked. If tire pressure is functioning properly, the light will turn off. However, if it's determined that tire pressure is low, this light will remain lit.
  • Oil Pressure Warning: This light is usually red in color and is in the shape of an oil can. If this icon is illuminated while your vehicle's engine is running, it may indicate that the engine oil pressure is low, or the lubricating system may be malfunctioning.
When you see this light, it is suggested to stop your car and check the oil level. If it's low, add oil right away. However, if the oil is at the proper level, but this light is still illuminated, you'll want to visit our Subaru service center as soon as possible.
  • Charge Warning: This icon is displayed in the shape of a car battery and is typically red or orange in color.
See this light while your engine is running? Chances are the charging system may not be working properly. In this instance, stop your car as soon as it's safe to do so and check the alternator belt. If the belt is broken or loose, please contact our service center.
  • Power Steering Warning: This light depicts a steering wheel accompanied by an exclamation mark.
This icon illuminates if a problem has been detected in the electric power steering system. This may cause added resistance when the steering wheel is in use. For your safety, it's wise to bring your Subaru Forester to our dealership for inspection.

Subaru Forester Indicator Lights

Indicators are glowing icons on your vehicle's dashboard that let you know when a specific function of your car is in use.

Here are some common indicator lights you may see on your Subaru Forester:

  • High Beam Indicator: This light is commonly blue in color and shows five horizontal lines stacked to the left of a sideways dome. If this light is displayed on your dashboard, your headlights are in high beam mode. When your high beams are turned off, this indicator will turn off as well.
  • Turn Signal Indicator: This symbol is often green in color and features either left or right arrows, depending on your chosen direction. These icons will blink when in use, letting other drivers know you're preparing to make a turn or change lanes.
  • Cruise Control Indicator: This icon displays a speedometer with an arrow pointing toward it, and appears when cruise control is activated. When cruise control is turned off, this light will also turn off.

What Are Dashboard Lights?

Almost every modern vehicle on the road today has their own series of dashboard lights. These lights act as alerts and warnings for various parts and features of your car's internal and external systems.

These lights are vital to the proper functioning of your vehicle, and in turn, to the safety of you and your passengers. Generally, there are two types of lights: warning lights and indicator lights.

While both are equally important, they each serve their own function, which we'll explain below.
