Do you love exploring all the green spaces that Danvers, Wakefield, and Reading, MA, have to offer? If so, then you should get behind the wheel of a vehicle that has a name reminiscent of the woods. So, if you love to bring along your favorite outdoor toys, how can you be sure you'll have enough power?

The team at Ira Subaru is here to help with our quick Subaru Forester towing capacity review. The Subaru Forester has a maximum available towing capacity of 3,000 pounds when properly equipped. We'll also go over the factors that can affect towing capability, how much you can tow, and how much interior cargo space you'll have-after all, you can't put everything in the trailer.

Read on to learn about everything you can bring with you in the Subaru Forester.

Performance That Affects Tow Rating

Before we can talk about the weight you can tow along behind your Forester, we have to talk about the power that comes under the hood. The Subaru Forester is equipped with a 2.5L SUBARU BOXER engine, which offers 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

Another factor that will affect your vehicle's tow rating is the transmission. The transmission changes raw engine power into usable power and sends it to the wheels. The Subaru Forester has three available transmissions to choose from based on your chosen trim level.

Equipped to the Base and Premium trims is a Lineartronic CVT (Continually Variable Transmission) with Adaptive Control. On the Sport, Limited, and Touring trims, you'll find a Lineartronic CVT with Adaptive Control and 7-speed manual mode. Finally, available on the Wilderness trim, there's a Lineartronic CVT with Adaptive Control and 8-speed manual mode.

Subaru Forester Towing Capacity

Depending on your chosen trim level, you'll have two different towing capacities. If you choose any trim but the Wilderness trim, you'll have a maximum available towing capacity of 1,500 pounds when properly equipped. This means you can easily bring along some canoes for a relaxing paddle down the river or a jet ski for some more excitement.

On the other hand, if you choose the Wilderness trim, you'll have the overall maximum available towing capacity of 3,000 pounds. This is double the towing capacity of the other trims and allows you to bring along a pop-up camping trailer or a small fishing boat to enjoy the sunshine and the water.

What Else Can You Bring Along?

Of course, you can't bring along everything in the trailer, such as items that are fragile or that have delicate electrical components-or your passengers.

The Subaru Forester can seat up to five riders, with 111.6 cubic feet of passenger volume on the Base trim and 107.6 cubic feet on all trims above that. In the trunk, you'll find 28.9 cubic feet of cargo space on the Base and 26.9 cubic space on higher trims.

However, if you're traveling on a solo sojourn, you can fold down the rear row of seats to expand the overall cargo volume. With the rear seats folded down, you can get up to 74.2 cubic feet of cargo feet on the Base trim and 69.1 cubic feet on all higher trims.
